Music of Ralph Towner.

In 2010, I was awarded a 2-year artist stipend by the Norwegian Cultural Department (Kulturåd) to study the guitar compositions and improvisational style of the legendary ECM artist Ralph Towner.

The highpoint of the project culminated in a two day visit at Towner’s home in Rome where we worked through the music selected for the recording “Man in the Moon.” (The lunar title refers to the two moon craters named after his compositions - Icarus and Ghost Beads). The album includes masterworks from Towner’s long career including the world premiere recording of the “Madeleine Variations”.

The Project finalised at Rainbow Studio in Oslo, home of many legendary ECM recordings, with the famed sound engineer Jan Erik Kongshaug. “Man in the Moon” was released in 2012 on the Clear Note Label. Today, it is an independent release.
